Do you remember Choose Your Own Adventure books? Those kid chapter books that after a few pages prompt you to decide what the characters should do, and based on what you choose, you turn to the corresponding page to continue the story. Choices like that pop up throughout the story, so you can read the same book multiple times with different events and results. Reading those as a kid, I loved having the ability to control the path of the characters.
Maybe God is like the most ultimate Choose Your Own Adventure author. That juxtaposition between God’s plan and free will- maybe God has it ALL figured out, regardless of what path we choose, regardless of the poor decisions and rough outcomes. He knows all the possible paths we can take, has an infinite number of choices in our adventure, and is with us whether we believe it or not.
Some of the adventures I’ve had aren’t ones I would choose. I’ve made mistakes that have led me to consequences that I would care to never repeat. But I’m not afraid of the future, of the mistakes I haven’t made yet.
The relief comes in knowing He controls my path, even when I “do a dumb.”
